Today in History ~ September 12

History. I used to hate history class when i was in school. I don't see the purpose at all. I was stewpid :P back then. But as i grow older (tak laa tua sgt, muda lagi laa), i can see how important and significant history is in our life. We try to learn from our mistakes. But for some people, they just like to repeat the same mistake. Maybe they don't pay much attention in the history class like i did. Like they always say : History forgotten is history repeated.

Anyway, let's see what happened today few yrs back (boleh laa korang belajar sejarah hari nih yek) :

  • 1940 ~ Lascaux cave paintings discovered
Near Montignac, France, a collection of prehistoric cave paintings are discovered by four teenagers who stumbled upon the ancient artwork after following their dog down a narrow entrance into a cavern.

  • 1953 ~ JFK marries Jacqueline Bouvier
  • 1972 ~ U.S. intelligence agencies report 100,000 troops in the South
U.S. intelligence agencies (the Central Intelligence Agency and Defense Intelligence Agency) report to the National Security Council that the North Vietnamese have 100,000 regular troops in South Vietnam and can sustain fighting "at the present rate" for two years.
  • 1974 ~ Violence in Boston over racial busing
In Boston, Massachusetts, opposition to court-ordered school "busing" turns violent on the opening day of classes. School buses carrying African American children were pelted with eggs, bricks, and bottles, and police in combat gear fought to control angry white protesters besieging the schools.
  • 1992 ~ Actor Anthony Perkins dies of AIDS
